The ministry landscape is changing.
For decades we’ve seen Western Christianity decline.
It doesn’t have to be that way.
In fact—it’s not that way everywhere.
Your church can empower and equip God’s people to connect to their neighborhoods and networks.
Places where fresh, new forms of Church can begin.
What You’ll Learn at Vision Day
Fresh Expressions US Vision Day is coming to your community. This is your chance to glean real, tested insights from the Fresh Expressions movement around the world.
You will learn:
- How to discover the mission opportunities all around you
- How fresh expressions are renewing the Church in places where it is “in decline”
- How a fresh expression can help an established church foster vitality and growth
- How to discern what opportunities for fresh expressions are already in your context.
- How real-life practitioners began their fresh expressions
- What unique skills you bring to creating fresh expressions
Who Are These People?
In 2004, a report from the Anglican and Methodist churches in the United Kingdom rocked the church. It included, hard evidence of a painful reality: their denominations were in decline.
It also included hope: a variety of new forms of Church were thriving…although they looked different than the traditional church.
Fresh Expressions was formed to help draw these grassroots attempts into a new movement. It worked.
Actually, it exploded!
Since that time, over 3,000 new “fresh expressions of Church” have begun across the UK. According to one report, in a typical week, 10% of people attending Anglican churches can be found in a fresh expression.
The Anglican and Methodist denominations doubled down, and provided extensive support and training for openminded churches and pioneering individuals to experiment with new types of Christian community.
The Fresh Expressions movement has since spread across the world, to places like South Africa, Australia and Canada. In 2010, the movement began taking shape in the US through the vision and generosity of the Baptist General Association of Virginia, a missions and ministry association of 1,400 churches in Virginia and a dozen other states. The first Fresh Expressions National Gathering was held in 2012, with leaders from twenty national and regional denominational groups represented. From the outset, the Fresh Expressions movement has been committed to becoming a national, cross-denominational movement.
What to Expect at Vision Day
When you and your team attend a Fresh Expressions US Vision Day, you’ll begin a new journey, that we hope will lead you to experiment with new forms of Church.
A typical Vision Day is a gathering of every day Jesus followers who dream of becoming pioneering leaders and who want to see the Church making a real impact. Pioneers, pastors, lay leaders, denominational leaders and teams can all find encouragement, resourcing, and kindred spirits in a shared conversation around fresh expressions of church.
These gatherings are regional, so that you can build relationships with others in your city also trying new things.
A Vision Day event starts at 9:00 AM and concludes at 3:30.
Your Registration fee includes lunch, snacks, and training packet for the day.
Fresh Expressions US publications will be available for purchase at a reduced rate at the training event in hopes that these resources can help jumpstart conversations and action in your local ministry context.
What People are Saying About Vision Day
“The enthusiasm of the Vision Day team was contagious and well timed. It sparked for me the reminder that I need to be looking for more opportunity to lead outside the ‘bubble’ and to equip others for the task.”
